Cheyenne LEADS Provides Factual Data Center Count for Cheyenne and Laramie County

CHEYENNE, WYO., (June 4, 2026) – Recent reports and public discussions have referenced varying estimates regarding the number of data centers operating in Cheyenne and Laramie County.

To the best of our knowledge, there are currently 10 operational data center locations in Cheyenne and Laramie County, 5 under construction, and 9 additional projects in various stages of planning or due diligence. Our count is based on physical data center locations and campuses.

Data centers are an important part of the local economy, generating significant private investment and contributing substantial tax revenues that support local schools, special districts, and state government services. Unlike many industries, data center operators are responsible for funding their own infrastructure improvements, utility connections, and power supply requirements associated with their projects.

Cheyenne LEADS also reminds the public that modern data centers are designed to operate efficiently and sustainably. Many facilities use little to no water for cooling, and operators continue to invest in technologies that reduce both water and energy consumption. Data centers help diversify the local economy, expand the tax base, support high-quality jobs, and strengthen the infrastructure needed to support Wyoming’s growing digital economy.

Importantly, data centers in Cheyenne and Laramie County do not receive local incentives from the City of Cheyenne or Laramie County. These projects are driven by Wyoming’s competitive business climate, reliable energy resources, cool weather) strategic location, and strong fiber infrastructure.

To help residents, community leaders, media, and stakeholders better understand data center development and its impacts, Cheyenne LEADS has launched a comprehensive online resource dedicated to answering frequently asked questions with documentation, source materials, and links to authoritative information.
