Cheyenne, Wyoming Named as one of America’s Best Cities for Global Trade
Global Trade magazine has released its 2014 selections for “America’s Best Cities for Global Trade.” Every year, the editors at Global Trade magazine compile the list to help globally minded companies strategically locate, grow and expand their operations. Cheyenne, Wyoming was selected as the city with Best Site Selection Assistance.
“Cheyenne was chosen as one of America’s best cities primarily based on the work Cheyenne LEADS has done for economic development in the city,” states Patrick Dooley, Global Trade editor. Cheyenne LEADS is the local economic development arm for the City and Laramie County.
With a new twist on this year’s list, the editorial team at Global Trade identified 10 needs-based and relevant categories that globally minded companies refer to when choosing a new location. These ‘needs’ became the 10 categories used to measure and select this year’s recipients. Each of the 10 categories in turn had 10 recipients for a total list size of 100 cities.
“That may sound like a lot of cities, but when you consider that there are some 30,000 cities in the U.S., Cheyenne being named as a top 100 for global trade is pretty exclusive,” added Randy Bruns, CEO of Cheyenne LEADS.
The categories were developed based on U.S. company needs understanding that every U.S. company that exports or imports has a unique set of attributes it’s looking for during its site selection process. Categories include; Best Trade Mission & Export Assistance – Best Site Selection Assistance – Most Innovative – Best Skilled Workforce For Manufacturers – Best Emerging Cities – Best Business Environment & Incentives – Best Global Vibe – Most Employee-Friendly – Best Proximity to Universities – Best Logistics Gateways. “We chose our cities not based on any single metric such as GDP or export totals, but rather based on a city-by-city analysis of what each is doing to excel in our categories of interest. We find this to be a more personalized approach that highlights tangible economic development,” said Global Trade senior editor Steve Lowery.
Global Trade magazine is edited for U.S.-based companies that do business globally. The magazine is known for its creative business journalism and for covering the impact and opportunities global trade has on businesses from Wall Street to Main Street.
