April Opening of Uranium Headquarters

CHEYENNE – Cameco Resources, the U.S. division of one of the world’s largest uranium producers, recently signed the lease for the sixth floor of the Wyoming Financial Center.  This location will house its U.S. headquarters, bringing 17 positions to Cheyenne from Lakewood, Colorado.  Cameco plans to open its Cheyenne office in April of this year and will hire up to 40 percent of its employees locally.

Tobin & Associates are the architects on the project and Richardson Construction of Cheyenne has been hired as the general contractor to remodel the leased space.  Randy Richardson of Richardson Construction commented, “We are excited to be working on this remodel project, not only because of the project itself but because Cameco is a large company.  Having them move their U.S. headquarters here is exciting and very positive for our community.”  Remodeling of the space began on January 4.

LEADS worked with the company over several months and met with company officials in September 2009 when they toured the city.  “We are excited that Cameco has chosen Cheyenne for its headquarter relocation,” commented Scott Sutherland, Vice President of Cheyenne LEADS, “their headquarters will be a great addition to Cheyenne and the downtown area. Company headquarters are positive additions to any community.”

“Moving our headquarters to Cheyenne brings us closer to our operations, to our planned future mining expansions in Wyoming and Nebraska, and to state regulators,” said Cameco Resources President Steve Collings. “It just makes sense.”

Cameco Resources is a subsidiary of Cameco Corporation, based in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, Canada.—Cameco Resources owns and operates the Smith Ranch-Highland in-situ uranium mine near Glenrock, the only operating uranium mine in Wyoming and the largest producing mine in the United States. It also owns and operates the Crow Butte in-situ uranium mine near Crawford, Neb.  The company currently employs 165 people in Wyoming and 69 in Nebraska.

Cheyenne LEADS is a member-supported private non-profit corporation devoted to bringing jobs and economic opportunity to Laramie County.  LEADS serves as the Economic Development entity for the City of Cheyenne and for Laramie County, Wyoming.
