Cheyenne gets new Komatsu dealer

CHEYENNE – A Denver-based construction-equipment distributor that deals in Komatsu machinery will open its first location in Wyoming by Sept. 1.

Power Motive Corp. has had the location in the works for some time, with Randy Bruns of Cheyenne LEADS saying at Wyoming Business Report’s 2014 Economic Forecast Lunch in November 2013 that the company would be among many to help bring 200 new jobs to Cheyenne in the near future. Other industrial-scale equipment sellers were among that list, including Westfall O’Dell Volvo of Cheyenne – a semi-trailer seller – which recently opened its location in the same business park.

The company lists only a regional sales manager and a product support sales representative on its website for the new location, but Power Motive Marketing Director Jeffrey Schwankl said the company would staff between eight and ten people by opening day. Though Komatsu is the company’s flagship brand, its website also points to KPI-JCI, Astec, Takeuchi, Sakai, Sandvik, Morbark, NPK, Fecon and Hensley as its other global suppliers.

As growth allows, the company will continue to hire in the Cheyenne area.

“We see Wyoming as a very conducive state toward job growth and opportunity and expect to see improvement for both us and Wyoming in the near future,” Schwankl said in an email to the Business Report.

For Power Motive, the Wyoming came as a natural extension of its business dealings in the Equality State, where Schwankl said the company has dealt for 50 years.

“As our customer base has grown in the Wyoming area, we felt the need to build a new location in order to provide better service and support for our Wyoming customers,” he said.

Beyond sales and rentals, the company offers service capabilities like preventative maintenance, carbiding, hose-making, hydraulic-component repair, cylinder repair, line boring, undercarriage, welding and certified rebuilds available both in-shop and in-field.

The company is excited about its expansion into Wyoming, a company release stated.

“We are thrilled to be opening our new state-of-the-art facility and growing our presence in the Wyoming market,” said Mac Blount, vice president of Power Motive.

The business will host an open house for the new branch Sept. 19, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at 7854 Hutchins Dr. in Cheyenne.
